Kay WalkingStick at June Kelly: Haptic Memory by David Ebony "In the small- and medium-sized pieces on view, including several multi-panel paintings, the Syracuse-born artist continues to explore a kind of symbolist imagery using schematic figures, landscape elements and abstract forms derived from nature. Most of the works on view were inspired by several visits to Rome over the past few years. While in Italy, she apparently immersed herself in Italian quattrocento painting. A number of works in the show feature gold-leaf backgrounds reminiscent of works by Fra Angelico. Others show stylized mountain landscapes that recall those in paintings by Mantegna or Bellini. In her work, WalkingStick aims to convey the sense of a spiritual connection between humankind and nature.
