Painting is a Sentualist's Labor
by Margaret Archuleta

“WalkingStick’s abstraction with landscape diptychs evolved formally and aesthetically when she returned to using oil paint, a more flexible and easily manipulated medium. Oils also produce a more varied and rich color in comparisons to the matted color of her wax emulsion mixture. They also developed conceptually through the combining of separate elements to create a dialogue – an interaction between the two canvases. WalkingStick pushes her contextual boundaries. Her diptychs become dichotomies – order/chaos, austerity/sumptuousness, unsettling/fulfilling, symbolic/pictorial, spiritual/material, concealment/revelation, romantic/visionary – “raucous visual conversations.”” [Pg. 22]
